Technology debt
Technology debt
Companies often struggle with technical debt
due to outdated technology, which is costly to maintain and hard to integrate
with modern systems, causing inefficiencies and higher costs. Older systems
also lack robust cybersecurity, increasing vulnerability to cyber threats.
When too many acquisitions can’t talk
effectively
United Shipping is an exciting global shipping company supported by 70 staff located worldwide. As a strategic acquirer
and operator of various companies involved in shipping and clearing, the
organisation used many different on-premise systems to deliver communication
and document sharing.
Wazzo Consulting were tasked with looking at the inefficiencies and
insecurities that arose from not working effectively as a single, unified
business.
The Challenge
United Shipping success meant they were operating a
communication and collaboration platform that was no longer fit for purpose.
With so many business units working differently, finding the root causes of the
communication gaps involved looking at each silo and planning how to unify
their approaches without affecting productivity.
The current way of working was putting their operations at risk. Inefficiencies were evident, and at times departments were
working in an insecure way. With the company's desire to continue expanding, the
current approach was no longer sustainable. Wazzo Consulting had to help move
them forward with a unified strategy.
What we did
We undertook both a technical review and a business review of their entire operations and realised the problems were compounded by legacy technology. Multiple different systems across multiple locations had to be supported, many of which were outdated and no longer upgradable.
